We are looking for an exceptional person to join a lovely nursery based in the Tunbridge wells/ Tonbridge area. This unique opportunity requires a qualified childcare professional with plenty of personality, creativity and an open-mind. The nursery practitioner performs an important role caring for children, maintaining a high-quality, stimulating learning environment, supervising staff and imparting their knowledge and skills to others. They are creative and reflective and able to implement new ideas and use a range of strategies to continually improve practice and support the team. There is simply no other job like this one.

This is a well-established nursery and forest school that welcomes children from 0 – 5 years with an excellent reputation. The nursery takes a holistic approach to childcare, allowing children freedom to play and learn independently, with an emphasis on outdoor learning. also operates a forest school for the children so an understanding and appreciation of this concept would be desirable.

Responsibilities:

• Day-to-day nursery activities which ensure that high standards of care and education are maintained.
• Prioritising the well-being of the children at all times when they are in our care and ensuring that their needs are met.
• Establishing appropriate planning, observation and assessment procedures in partnership with management and other staff to ensure children’s progress is monitored and aligned with the EYFS.
• Build and maintain good, respectful and kind relationships with other staff team members.
• Effectively using our recording system (Tapestry) for each individual child, to enable effective storage and retrieval of information and sharing of progress with parents, other professionals and agencies whilst being aware of the confidentiality of the information contained therein.
• Ensuring that the children have access to appropriate activities to support their physical, emotional, social and intellectual development whilst being aware of families’ ethnic, cultural and linguistic development.
• Ensuring that children are supported but have freedom to play at all times and take part in available activities with minimal adult involvement or participation.

Required:

• NVQ Level 2 or 3 or equivalent/higher qualification in childcare or related subject.
• Experience working with children aged 0-5 for at least two years post qualification.
• Must be reliable.
• Enhanced DBS check (your role will depend on this, but we can apply for one if you start with us and do not already have one).
• Good numeracy and literacy skills.
• Organisation skills.
• First aid certificate preferred.
• Excellent communication skills
• Knowledge of policies and procedures relating to child protection, health, safety, security, equal opportunities and confidentiality.
• Demonstrable knowledge of the EYFS.

• The ability to count quickly as numerous small people move around.
• Ability to read a ten-page book upside down, with at least 4 interruptions per page.
• Be prepared to have lots of fun at work and to laugh lots.
• Be prepared to feel, loved, special, and important to many young children and their families.
